Yes, 1 pound or 16 ounces. The block vocabulary is because different quantities of food will satisfy your block requirements for protein, carb or whatever. For instance, a slice of bread might fulfill two carb blocks. You could also fulfill the carb requirement with 6 cups of broccoli or whatever. I just made those numbers up for the example. So rather than have to specify entire meal plans, you can just fulfill block requirements across the three macronutrient categories (carb, protein, fat) and know with fair certainty that you are getting the right number of calories in roughly the right proportion.

Does the scale say one pound of beef? Why does the Zone use "blocks" instead of ounces or grams? Now I'm curious...

The problem is that gymnastics involves many non-functional movements which are known to be destructive to the human body and lead to long-term physical damage, so let's protect the youngest children from the money and national pressure to perfect those moves until they're older and more physically ready for them. (And more mentally mature to accept the risks, though 16 is still way too young for that.)

Whereas CrossFit focuses on functional training (yay!) that we can hope does not and will not cause the same kinds of long-term body damage (double yay!).
