Athlete of the Month: Jeremy Sanders

What keeps you busy when you’re not in the gym?
I stay busy with work, friends, and travel outside of the gym. I really enjoy traveling and have been pretty lucky to have traveled to some pretty awesome places

What motivated you to become a CrossFitter?
I was tired of the same old grind of my workout regimen and not seeing results or feeling like I was making improvement. I decided I needed someone to help me find direction and to coach me on how to change it up.

What’s been your biggest challenge in the gym?
I would say my biggest challenge at the gym has been getting over the mental challenge of “over-thinking” certain exercises. I’m an analytical type of guy, so I have a tendency to try and breakdown certain lifts or movements instead of just going for it!

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment in the gym?
Biggest accomplishment at the gym thus far has probably been realizing that I can push myself harder/further than I would have ever thought before. Just when you think you’ve reached your potential, there IS more in you and you can keep working.

How has CrossFit carried over to your life outside the gym?
I’d say that CrossFit has helped me to be more focused at work as well as it makes me think more about my priorities and choices I’m making. I’ve had to adjust my life schedule to ensure I can make CrossFit a priority and this made me realize that I was making myself a priority, which is a good thing!

Any advice for people just getting started?
Don’t be afraid of the workouts! They can be intimidating to see written on a board, especially when you don’t know what a lot of it even means, but just ask if you don’t understand. Finally, be on time, make the workouts a priority, and use your coaches…don’t cheat yourself out of your full potential!
