Style or fashion?

Geraldine Stutz, the former president of Henri Bendel famously said, “Fashion says, ‘Me too’ and style says, ‘Only me’.”

In the fitness world, the reflexive desire to say “Me too!” is how gyms end up offering spinning, yoga, pilates, zumba, TRX, and of course, CrossFit, or some bastardized version of it.

But that’s not fitness. That’s an identity crisis.

In the real world, organizations struggle to do one thing well. Most organizations fall into the “Me too” trap and inevitably end up doing many things poorly.

But you have to focus on the “Only me” even when everyone around you is saying “Me too.”

Otherwise you become a fashion victim.
