7 Months Pregnant and CrossFitting!

Throughout my pregnancy (now in month 7), I’ve been attending the CrossFit Moms class at TwinTown CrossFit.  It has been an integral part of staying healthy, both physically and emotionally, throughout my pregnancy.

I did CrossFit before my pregnancy, but when I found out we were expecting, I initially thought I’d have to take a long break from it.  But then Teddy told me about the many expecting mothers who do CrossFit throughout their pregnancies and are healthier and have much healthier babies because of it.

At first I was kind of intimidated because the literature out there about exercising during pregnancy practically scares you out of any type of challenging workout. But, I discovered that CrossFit Moms combines gentle challenging with sensitivity for your own needs and place in your pregnancy.  Everything is scaled to my current abilities (which change from month to month).  The experience feels challenging, but not scary at all.  In fact, I’ve found that it has made me feel much stronger.

This is my first pregnancy, and like many women I sometimes feel a little fragile and unsure about how to navigate all the daily physical changes.  But, doing CrossFit has helped me realize that I am much stronger than I thought.  And honestly, I can’t think of a more important time to feel strong and confident in my body.  After all, I’m working up to one of the most challenging physical experiences of my life!  And of course beyond the emotional benefits of just feeling stronger, I actually am stronger—I am building muscles and endurance to help me through labor and beyond.  Plus, I find I have more energy during the day and sleep better at night on the days I go to class.  And as many pregnant women can tell you, energy and a good night’s sleep can be hard to come by!

I’m so thankful for this class!  If you or someone you know is expecting and would like to learn more, contact us.

Here is a photo from one of our recent workouts (we’re doing squats and “good mornings”):
