Whenever I went to yoga class I would see people wearing pants with an omega emblem. I always wondered what it stood for until one day I walked by a lululemon store in Santa Monica and realized that the omega is lululemon’s symbol. I probably should have made the association sooner but some puritanical instinct prevented me from bending over and staring at the logo on people’s rear ends. Call me a prude.
Anyway, lululemon is a fascinating company. They produce intensively R&D’d performance sports wear that is equal to Reebok or Nike in terms of technical sophistication. The only difference is that lululemon seems to focus on yoga and other non-mainstream training modalities.
lululemon stores are very involved in their local communities and the employees make a point to educate themselves about different fitness programs and systems. They can speak knowledgeably to a wide variety of athletes representing a wide range of needs.
This week I had the very great pleasure of meeting some of the local lululemon staff at TwinTown CrossFit for an introduction to CrossFit. It was unbelievably fun! We flipped the hot tamale (the 175 lb. heavy bag in the picture), jumped around and generally broke a piece off. The lululemon team have an amazing attitude and boy are they a bunch of bad-asses in the gym.
If you’re in need of some technical training clothes, check out one of the two local lululemon locations.
