As someone with an almost overpowering hibernation instinct, it’s incredibly difficult for me to remain active during the winter months. The darkness and cold make me want to find a hollow log and sleep until May. As appealing as that sounds, I’ve found that it’s much better to get out there and move around.
But how can you stay motivated to train when it’s achingly cold out? The best advice I can give is to make a training goal that will require you to move all winter. I’m entered in a half-marathon in February. In order to finish on my feet I know I can’t make excuses not to train. The simple fact that I’ve committed to a race flip the dynamic so that now I’m actively looking for excuses to train.
And the cold isn’t so bad if you dress appropriately. Like this guy:

Luke. I am your father.
